The Technology Behind Mera

Our Technology

Mera™ is an automated microphysiological system (MPS) platform developed by Hooke Bio.

The flow-based platform is designed to replicate human 3D tissue and immune dynamics to improve prediction of treatment response under physiologically relevant conditions. Designed to bridge the gap between conventional static in vitro culture systems and human biology by enabling real-time immune behaviour under dynamic fluid flow, providing clinically-relevant insights. Mera™ is designed to model complex tumour–immune interactions while also assessing off-target effects on healthy tissues. The platform recreates key aspects of both tumour and healthy tissue microenvironments, providing a more predictive reflection of clinical response for applications in immunotherapy, drug screening, and safety assessment.

How does Mera™ work?

The Mera™ platform incorporates a dynamic fluidic channel that continuously recirculates immune cells, nutrients, oxygen, and signalling molecules through a closed-loop system. The channel can operate independently or in conjunction with 3D spheroids and organoids to create physiologically relevant microenvironments. Tuneable flow conditions promote enhanced cell–cell interactions and enable the real-time study of immune cell trafficking, cytokine release, tumour killing, and tissue responses, providing more predictive insights for drug discovery and translational research.

Plate Formats

Hooke Bio supplies a range of specialised plate formats designed to support diverse applications on the Mera™ microphysiological system. These include standard single-well formats for spheroid and organoid culture, multi-tissue configurations for modelling tissue–tissue interactions, and custom plate designs tailored to specific experimental requirements.

Manufactured from biocompatible materials and optimised for fluidic integration, Mera™ plates support long-term culture, automated imaging, dynamic flow, and downstream molecular analyses. Their modular design enables researchers to select the most appropriate format for applications ranging from drug efficacy and toxicity testing to immune-oncology, tissue function, and multi-organ studies, while maintaining compatibility with Mera’s™ scalable and automated workflow.
